Dear Akwaeke

A Response to Akewake Emezi’s Dear Senthuran

In letters addressed to their friends, to members of their family - both biological and chosen - and to fellow storytellers, Akwaeke Emezi describes the shape of a life lived in overlapping realities. This book is an account of the gruelling work of realignment and remaking necessary to carve out a future for oneself. The result is a Black spirit memoir: a powerful, raw unfolding of identity.

A Vibe Called Tech developed a launch campaign for the UK release of the book that centres on a global community of creatives who champion and celebrate Black literature. Those involved speak to Emezi’s heritage by engaging in unique modes of audio-visual storytelling using vital African-Nigerian-Igbo traditions of sound, dance and performance. In a week-long piece of activity titled 'Dear Akwaeke', these individuals and collectives will respond to different letters from the book, continuing the dialogue that Dear Senthuran begins.
